Czechatom has been founded in 2019 as a continuation of a process that started in 2007 – recurring fact-finding and decision making whether there is enough scientific, engineering, manufacturing, and capital capacity to make a Czech SMR. In 2018 we concluded that we have a worthwhile chance and started building team around relevant ideas we have developed over the years.
Czechatom has inhouse team of experienced nuclear specialists with the combined experience of 90 years who design the Nuclear Island and network of cooperating partners who with us work on the Plant Design and all associated tasks.
Czechatom is currently finishing conceptual design of DAVID SMR with the aim to start working on Basic Design in Summer 2023.
DAVID is a Czech pressurized water small modular reactor (SMR) with a thermal output of 175MW (50 MWe). The development of SMR technology promises an opportunity to increase energetic security of the Czech Republic. A rapid change in the energy mix is accompanied by a need to rapidly find a specific technical solution for new energy sources. Therefore DAVID SMR based on the proven PWR technology, utilizing concepts well known by Czech nuclear experts.
